Private Lessons

As a private instructor, I pride myself on teaching with joy, compassion, and understanding. Learning an instrument can be a very individualized task. Everyone’s body functions and responds differently to the challenges posed by this new skill. I embrace my students knowing that each of them will be unique, and I honor this in my approach– by listening to their discomfort, encouraging their exploration, and building a trusting relationship– ultimately, sparking the curiosity to learn more!

I draw my methods from Essential Elements and the Suzuki Method, and infuse them with my own experiences, both as a teacher and student. While some teachers hesitate to approach their new students with higher-level language and technique, I choose not to hold my students back from developing a deeper understanding of the cello, and approach them with the same respect that I receive as a Master’s student.

I am currently accepting cello students of all ages and abilities, from absolute beginners to advanced players. Please fill out the form on my contact page or email me to find out more!

Policies

I offer at-home lessons– I am happy to travel to you!

If this is not possible, please contact me. I am currently looking for a studio space to rent if the demand presents itself. I am located in Allston and willing to travel within a 10 mile radius of this area.

Students are expected to have their own instrument and supplies, including but not limited to: the cello, bow, a cello stopper/rock stop, rosin, a music stand, and a cleaning cloth. If problems with buying or renting occur, please contact me and I can point you in the direction of local music shops. All supplies outside of the instrument can be purchased through Amazon or Shar Music. I am more than happy to provide assistance with finding the right materials!

Students are also expected to have their own copy of the books we will be working from, including but not limited to: Essential Elements, Suzuki Method, I Can Read Music, and repertoire books. I am able to provide photocopies of music until these books can be purchased. Most books are available on Amazon or Shar Music.

Payments for lessons can be made using Venmo, Zelle, or by cash or check. Lessons will be billed every two weeks. I am open and flexible in discussing any financial limitations or questions– education should be open to everyone!

All lesson cancellations must be made within 24 hours of the lesson. Any cancellations that occur after this window will result in a charge for that week’s lesson. However, I understand that things happen, and will not charge any fee if the cancellation is the result of an emergency situation.

Parents are expected to sign a form outlining these policies in more detail that will be distributed at or before the first lesson.
